1. I think my favorite figure in history, specifically American history, would be James Madison. Past just being a relative of his, I find many aspects of his life fascitating. From a medical standpoint, his struggles with epilepsy, or "sudden attacks" as he described them, are very interesting for me to investigate. Moreoever, his dedication to freedom of religion and Constitutional ratification have always piqued my interest. I love learning more about how he viewed the emerging nation and about his interactions with other prominent statemen of the time.

2. I think you can judge the past through today's lens to an extent. Certainly, we can look back and evaluate how we have existed as humans throughout history and critique. However, it is crucial to consider how societies have evolved over time. Though not excused, mistreatments have to assessed with the time period and norms in mind.
